So I finally decided to take advantage of my work's offer to upgrade from my flip phone. Without much research I decided to go with an iPhone. I just completed my first week with it and it definitely has become one of my favorite toys of all time (right up there with Lincoln Logs).

Running Wild!

As many of you know, finding time to exercise with young kids can be a challenge. That said, Heidi has had a goal of getting more into running and decided to sign up to run on a team relay for the Akron Marathon (about 12,000 runners). As a personal challenge she requested the longest leg of the race (8 miles).

Today was Race Day! It was a very eventful, action packed and fun day.

Here are the highlights (hopefully pictures to follow):

Loaded up the entire family and left the house by 5:30 am
I ran the first leg (3.5 miles) of a different relay team and then met back up with the family for the Kids Fun Run
Caden participated in the 1K Fun Run and did great (Colton slept as I pushed him through the 1K - somehow he still ended up with a medal and a goodie bag)
Heidi then got her chance to run. Although this was her first major event, she was the anchor for her team on the 8 mile race to the finish. She did amazing!!! She had the quickest pace on her team and she looked like she could have kept on going for several more miles without breaking much of a sweat. I am so proud of her!!
She is now talking about running the half marathon next year (anyone interested in joining her?)

On a related note, we ran a 5K last week to prep for today's race and Heidi was a medalist in her category! (somehow Colton also ended up with a medal even though he once again slept through the entire race as I pushed him - he has really got this whole racing stuff figured out)

Special Moments

We all have had special moments, I had one yesterday that I want to share. The boys and I were driving to church and like always we were listening to primary songs. The song "I know That My Redeemer Lives" started to play and Caden said with conviction "He does live, Mom". I said "Oh, really. How do you know?" He said " Because I do". Then I shared with him how I too know that our Redeemer lives. He is an amazing little boy.

Most of you have heard that Caden needed his appendix out on the 21st of October. I thought I would show you all the gory pictures, no, it really wasn't that bad. Caden was a real trooper and has healed nicely. Thanks everyone for the prayers and phone calls.

Thanks to AquaMan® and his trusty Penguin friend we had a great Halloween. Heidi decided to take on the project of sewing Caden's costume (since none of our local stores carried it). I think she did a great job! Colton's was a little easier since we bought it on clearance last year. Now we just need to figure out what we are going to do with all this candy.

ps- Heidi also finally got her long awaited haircut. What a hot mamma!

The Boys - October 09

Here are a couple of pictures of the boys. As you can tell, Colton has quite the head of hair. As for Caden, this is him getting off the bus after his first day at school. He is really enjoying it (especially recess and riding the bus - anyone surprised?).

Car Accident

Here is what is left of our Corolla. Heidi got hit from behind as she was stopped at a red light. Fortunately, they boys were with me at Caden's soccer game and she was okay (just sore). Two weeks later we finally got a replacement car (another 2000 Corolla).

Safety Town

After a grueling week of learning, Caden is now a proud graduate of Safety Town. Before Caden went to safety town we had a couple of special talks. It took us a week to convince Caden that he shouldn't tell the fireman that Mom and Dad let him light fireworks and fires. Especially, that Grandpa Williams has let him throw a matches into a pile of leaves. I think it worked because I haven't been reprimanded by a fireman yet.

Calling all Super Heros!

Caden just celebrated his 5th birthday with six of his friends. Heidi made all of them capes that they then decorated to represent their favorite super hero. He had everyone from Lavaman to Aquaman join in on the fun.

Heidi's side note: Every year I tell myself I will tone it down and make the party easier for me. I won't invite so many kids, I won't sew outfits to fit the theme, I won't kill myself planning so many games to keep the kids busy and lastly, I won't out do myself on food when I am feeding 5yr olds that can't tell the difference between a cake from scratch and one from a box. Well... I accomplished one of those things, I invited only six kids this year. I guess I just have too much of my mom in me. The goal for next year is a bowling party.

Watch out all you drivers! Colton is now on the road. He really is enjoying his car now that his brother is finally letting him (For the first few days after we found this find at a local garage sale, Caden thought it looked like fun - even though he didn't fit very well). Next up... walking?

Subzero Fun

What do you do when it is in the negatives outside? That last few days it has been around -2 or lower. Anything below zero means I stay in the house (Who am I kidding. Anything below 40 I stay in the house.) We get bored fast, so today we played my favorite sport, field hockey, in the basement for a few hours. Caden is pretty good. I think it was because he use to watch me coach field hockey when we lived in Ventura (where the weather was always prefect). Oh how I miss Ventura, especially on days like these.

Beauty Sleep

All that beauty sleep has really worked because he is beautiful. This is my baby, Colton James Klein. He is such a blessing to our family. I am so thankful that he is here. (P.S. that other handsome devil is the love of my life. I am grateful that I tricked him into marrying me. )

Winter Wonderland

What kind of parents take a two and half month old out in the freezing cold? Sorry, but we got over 10 inches of snow and it was just screaming to be a sledding day. Caden had a blast and Colton slept through it.

As a side note, I caught Jared teaching Caden how to behave like a typical boy (showing him how to ride the sled down the deck stairs and how to jump off the back deck into the snow). Caden asked when can he ride the sled off the roof. What can a girl do in a house full of boys, but laugh.

Field Trip the Klein Way

Jared was looking in a book I have called "Cleveland Family Fun". He found a little gem called Lake Erie Nature and Science Center. What appealed to him the most was that it was free. What appealed to Caden the most was that there were snakes that you can find here in Ohio. He has been planning for weeks now to catch a rattlesnake just like the one in the science center (corn snakes no longer keep his interest). I am not sure I like knowing that there are rattlesnakes in Ohio. Ignorance is bliss.

It is amazing how much entertainment a 4 yr. old can get out of Grandpa's dollar store Christmas gifts. Caden insisted on bring his new chinese finger traps with us on our trip to the Kubalek's for New Years Eve. The question to ask is "How many times has this happened to you?"

Colton's First Visit with Santa

This picture shows the boys as we experienced "Breakfast with Santa" at the local grocery store. We left having learned two important things, namely: 1) Grocery store breakfasts don't taste as good as Daddy's homemade breakfast and 2) Colton is not really that big of a fan of Santa, yet.

Halloween Fun

Halloween is definitely Caden's favorite holiday. It must be the combination of getting to wear costumes along with massive amounts of candy.

This picture was about 2 weeks prior to Halloween. (Everyone knows you have to start early to get in the Halloween spirit.)

Here we see the two pumpkins we carved the day before Halloween. We had planned on carving them sooner but we have had our schedules all messed up. The one on the left is Caden's creation. It has toothpicks sticking out of its head for an added effect.

Here is Caden on Halloween night just before the night on the town. Although he is a total sugar-a-holic, he still ended up being more into acting like a ninja than asking for candy. His moves included; sneaking up on people, hiding behind light poles & bushes, demonstrating his ninja spins/kicks and most importantly showcasing his vast array of weapons.

Home at Last

We are pleased to announce that Colton was FINALLY able to come home from the hospital today. It was only a week but at times it felt like a lifetime. It is so nice to have him here with us (even though he is still trying to figure out what this non-hospital life is all about).

As seen in the bottom picture, Colton is in an incubator to help him get enough oxygen. His lungs are a little underdeveloped (but nothing to be too concerned about). He will stay a few more days at the hospital until his lungs start fully functioning on their own. He still looks great and we are thrilled to have him officially join our family!

Boyer's Farm

Caden had a field trip this week to Boyer's farm. Dad was out of town so we took lots of pictures for him. We saw lots of farm animals, went through a maze, went on a hay ride, picked a pumpkin, and then had fresh apple cidar (Caden's favorite part). It was so fun to see Caden in action at school. Then to round off the day we spent 6 hours in the hospital, because I slipped on the wet grass and fell down during the field trip. Other than some frequent contractions, everything was fine and they finally let me go home. Caden thinks hospitals are cool because he got to watch 6 straight hours of T.V.

Attack of the Killer Bees

Our home teacher invited a few young families in the ward to come and watch him harvest his honey. What we didn't expect was a scene from a horror show. When he opened the hive the bees got a little upset. It would have been fine but the kids had just picked and started eating some juicy apples from the nearby tree. The aggitated bees started flying everywhere. Mothers and children were screaming. For some crazy reason I kept getting them stuck in my hair. After three bee stings to my head, one on Jared's face, and one unscathed boy we made it into the house. The rest of the harvesting went well (because we did it in the garage). Overall, the image of a primary class activity gone wrong has kept us laughing ever since.

This is a picture we took of the Sacred Grove. It was incredible to be able to experience the sights and the feelings first hand.

Here is Caden in training to become one of the Nephite Warriors. The production of the Hill Cumorah Pagent was really incredible. (We even got a chance to hang out with Uncle Jacob)

We're Back!!

So this is our sad story of our recent absence from the world of blogging...

First, as you might have noticed our camera picture quality has been steadily declining. We finally decided to invest in a new camera.
Second, shortly after we got our new camera we have enjoyed a series of great summer vacations (from the Hill Cumorah, to Niagara Falls, to Oregon, to Utah) and have been saving the pictures to post.
Next, after we finished our vacation spree, we loaded our pictures on the computer to prepare to post when our computer went on the fritz. Ahhh!!!
Finally, (hundreds of dollars later) we now have a new camera, a new computer, and very few pictures of the last several months and years (as we lost all of our pictures off our hard drive).

Don't worry, even after all these blogging trials, we are back for another attempt.

We are all very excited to be adding another healthy boy to the mix. Caden won the bet with Mom and now will have a companion for his adventures.

This was Caden's final day of preschool. They were all invited to bring their Teddy Bears for a class picnic. Caden decided to bring both his Teddy Bears (Apple and Sleddy). Although Caden will miss his school until Fall, Mom is relieved that at least she gets the summer off from trying to get Caden to be up and at em by 9:00 a.m. (He gets his heavy sleeping from her!)

Caden is our own little Chef. His creations range from quite tasty to deadly. After extensive watching of the Food network he decided that he needed his very own chef's hat. Fortunately, Mom caught him as he was attempting to attach the his hat directly to his head using tape and they were able to compromise and add a band.

Our Downtown Akron Adventure

We finally made it to the infamous Quaker Square in downtown Akron. (We actually just stumbled onto it after we spend the morning at the National Inventors Hall of Fame) Unfortunately, both sites were a little run down but nonetheless we managed to enjoy ourselves.

Yesterday, Caden asked if I could help him find his journal. He told me that he needed to read his scriptures and write in his journal. (He loves looking at the pictures at the beginning of The Book of Mormon.) After helping him set up, I was excited that he was going to entertain himself for awhile. Ten minutes later he came down the stairs to show me his insight. He had copied the words from the cover page of the scriptures. Being the biased mom that I am, I think it is pretty good for a three and a half year old.

Jared had some weird urge to start a blog, which is totally opposite of both of our personalities because we are worst with keeping in touch with people. Let's see how long this lasts. (Especially since I told him he is in charge of updating things). I was content just reading all of our friend's blogs, but thought it might also be fun to show off our amazing little boy.

Today was my first day praying in Primary. I loved talking in the microphone. I would like to invite all of you to come over and build a train with me out of wood. We can all go on a ride in it.
